Whether players have attended the NetSetGo! program at St Finbar's Netball Club, any other Club or Association, or not at all, children from year 4 are eligible to play for St Finbar's Netball Club in the 11&Under competition at the SANDY Netball Association (SANDY) at Thomas St, Hampton if they live or attend school in the Bayside City Council.
At SANDY, players participate in each age level for 2 years, so players will stay in 11&Under in year 4 and 5, then move up to 13&Under. There are 5 or 6 divisions in each age level, and we try to place teams into a division that best suits their skill level. However team grading is not an exact science and sometimes teams are moved into a more suitable division during the season depending on their first few matches played. Boys are welcome to play up to the U13 level and then teams which include boys are invited to enter the U15 or U17 mixed divisions.
U11 Competition
The 11&Under level is all about participation. There is no 'ladder', the teams don't play in finals and the coaches are encouraged to rotate the players in to all positions on the court throughout the season so they get a good feel for the game. At the end of the season, all teams play in a 'round robin' against some of the teams in their level and all receive 'participation' medals.
The season usually begins with training a Round Robin event in mid February where teams will play 3 or 4 short matches to help the Association 'grade' the teams into their appropriate divisions. The season finishes in September (date to be confirmed) with another Round Robin.
All first year 11&Under matches are played on Thursday evenings at 5.50 pm or 6.30pm. Second year 11&Under matches play on Saturday mornings beginning from 8.15am and age groups progress throughout the day up to the Open Division in the afternoon. There is no way to guarantee what time each team will play until it is determined which division they are placed into, and how many teams there are in each division. But all the matches will be at the same time at the same place, which is at the courts on Thomas St, Hampton.
Players are expected to arrive 30 minutes before match time for a warm up. Matches will be 4 x 7 minute quarters.
Please see the Team Selection tab for more information on how teams are chosen.
Training is also held at Thomas St Hampton. St Finbar's Netball Club has been allocated the courts for training from 4.00 on Monday afternoons. The training schedule is determined before the start of each season based on the availability of coaches. The parents sometimes organise a car pool to transport the players down to the courts.
All St Finbar's Netball Club members playing at SANDY will require the club uniform consisting of a skort (skirt with built-in bike shorts) and a top. There is an optional Club Hoodie available too. These are ordered well before the season begins, so that the uniforms are available at the start of the season. See the uniform tab for more information and prices for the club uniform.
